When Did Self Help Become Help Yourself To Others’ Cash?

I don’t know if any of you have noticed this new phenomenon, but it seems as if many of the self-help folks have gone scammy. I mean if I get another “You gotta read this from my main man (NAME REMOVED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT) or another free e-book that you only get after you input your name and email and go through a one-sheeter that tells you about a fabulous new program that will only cost you 75.99 ,which is the usual price of these programs, always marked down from some absurd number like 2,000 dollars or something!
If I get another one of those emails I am going to scream!! Which leads me to the question. If you have reached the goal of being self reliant and wealthy enough to say … never have to work again a day in your life. Why, if you proclaim to be a coach or a guru who wants to help other achieve this same goal, would you not give the information away for free? Why the need to keep selling new programs. Anyone?
